Awareness Month 2018

The theme for October Awareness Month 2018 is raising awareness of Diabetes Insipidus.

We will be increasing the amount of medical professionals who know about the new Diabetes Insipidus (DI) clinical guidelines that were recently published in Endocrine Connections Journal. These guidelines, produced by leading DI experts, outline best practice for inpatient management. These guidelines are helpful as can ensure a DI patient is managed correctly when in hospital and their DI is not confused with diabetes mellitus.

Also during October The Foundation will be taking part in the wider debate regarding a change of name for DI. We will be publicising articles about this topic and also working to raise general awareness about this misunderstood condition.

There is also a separate awareness and fundraising angle to the campaign which will be encouraging schools and businesses to hold Go Orange days and simultaneously raising awareness about pituitary.

Ways you can get involved this October to help us raise awareness

  1. Help us publicise the new DI clinical guidelines published in Endocrine Connections Journal by emailing a copy to your doctor – click here to read a copy of the guidelines, and to get the link to paste in an email to your Doctor.
  2. If you are a DI patient print a copy of the new guidelines to include with your own patient notes.
  3. Organise a Go Orange event to raise vital awareness of pituitary conditions!GO ORANGE LOGO

With your help we can make our voice louder and we will raise vital awareness so that nobody need suffer in isolation. Whether you choose to get your office involved, hold an Orange themed party in the community or get your child’s school/college/university involved, we have all the resources that you would need to make it a success. From balloons, invitations, posters, fundraising guides and even games to add the fun to your event.

Taking part is simple and your Go Orange event could be as simple or as elaborate as you want it to be. From asking everyone to wear orange and make a donation, to organising a raffle with some special orange prizes, or even sponsoring your boss to do something daring in orange – there’s a whole range of things your friends or colleagues can do to raise money to support pituitary patients whilst also raising vital awareness in the process

Whilst we would love you to raise as much money as possible to fund our vital support services it is the awareness that is achieved that is more important to us and simply by taking part you are helping us achieve our objective. Whether you raise £10 or £1,000 it will make a great difference to our work and most importantly we will have been exposed to many people who may have never heard of us before.
