New Text Helpline Service
We are delighted to announce the introduction of a new text support service at the end of June 2017.
Patients will now be able to text us to ask patient information questions 24/7 and can expect a reply within a day.
This is a convenient and helpful way for patients, families and carers to cover a broad variety of issues, for example questions about the illness, their diagnosis and requests for resources.
We’re working hard to provide as much help as we can for patients and we hope this will be a strong addition to our current support services.
Texting is an easy way for patients and others to contact us, particularly where they are too unwell to call or in situations where a phone call isn’t suitable (in clinics, late at night etc.).
This confidential helpline will also provide a simple alternative for people to discuss symptoms which they may feel uncomfortable divulging over the phone, such as low libido, impotence, infertility, anxiety or depression.
Texting is standard practise with younger people and is also becoming more widely used by older people; over two thirds of adults now use a smartphone, and 15% of adults live in areas where they can only access mobile rather than fixed line phone services.
We believe it is essential that we invest in the use of technology to meet the needs of young people and of our wider audience.
Helpline texts will be answered by experienced Patient and Family Services team staff.
The service will run between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday and we will endeavour to reply to you, as a text appearing on your mobile, within 24 hours – this will often be sooner.
If you send a text over the weekend, we will text you back on the Monday (except Bank Holidays).
Texts will be charged at your standard network rate. If you have free text messages as part of your contract, your text to us will be free.
Please note that the text service is not an emergency service and if you need to speak to someone or have longer, more complex questions we advise you call or email us.
We do hope that this new service will offer you more convenience.

Patient Support Helpline 0117 370 1320 - Confidential helpline for questions about pituitary conditions. Calls are answered by trained staff and volunteers with experience of pituitary conditions.
Monday to Friday 10am - 4pm
