This October we’re celebrating Pituitary Awareness Month by going ‘Back to Basics’. We want to make sure everyone knows about the pituitary gland, hormones, and the importance of both in the body. Our volunteers are helping us do this.
Our Pituitary Ambassadors work hard to raise awareness. They do this through fundraising, providing their specific expertise, and representing the Foundation at events. During October, our Ambassadors will be visiting their local endocrine clinics. They’ll be telling the endocrine team at the clinic about the amazing work that the Foundation does, and the support that we can offer their patients. We hope that this will allow more people in the pituitary community to access the support that we offer.
One of our Ambassadors, Roz, will be speaking at the WAPO (World Alliance of Pituitary Organisations) conference. She will be promoting awareness and share her experience with a pituitary condition. This will be an amazing way to engage with people from across the world about the pituitary gland, and pituitary conditions.
Office volunteers who help in the Bristol office will be joining Pituitary Foundation staff and others from the pituitary community on an Awareness Walk around Bristol Harbourside. We’ll be raising awareness in the local community, while getting outside and giving us a breather from the stresses of daily life.
The Coventry Support Group are hosting a craft and jumble sale to both raise awareness and fundraise for their group. There will be an information stand and local craft exhibitors. Volunteer Hannah Mai will be giving a presentation on her lived experience of a pituitary condition.
Pituitary Awareness Month is a great opportunity to spread the word of pituitary conditions beyond your usual circle. For example, John who runs the Oxford Support Group is reaching out to his local cycling group of over 100 people to spread the message about pituitary conditions.
There are also support group meetings taking place throughout the month, run by volunteers across the country. These are:
- Exeter on the 01/10/2024
- Plymouth on the 08/10/2024
- York on the 12/10/2024
- Oxford on the 17/10/2024
- Salisbury on the 19/10/2024
These meetings focus on providing support to those in the local pituitary community.
We hope that hearing about how our volunteers has inspired you to get involved with raising awareness this Pituitary Awareness Month.
